The Experience

What this journey feels like

This is Morocco as a journey of contrasts.

It begins on the Atlantic edge in Casablanca, where the Hassan II Mosque rises dramatically beside the sea. From there, the route moves through royal Rabat and into Chefchaouen, where blue-painted lanes climb through the Rif Mountains and the pace of the journey begins to change.

Fes brings a different Morocco: older, deeper, more intricate. Its medina feels less like a museum than a living city, where tanneries, workshops, madrasas and markets still follow rhythms shaped over centuries.

Then the landscape opens. The road moves through cedar forests, mountain towns and desert edges before reaching Merzouga, where the Sahara gives the journey its quietest and most memorable moment. Sunset over the dunes is not simply a photo stop. It is a shift in atmosphere.

The southern route continues through gorges, kasbahs and film-like desert scenery before crossing toward Marrakech. By the time you arrive, Morocco’s layers have begun to make sense: imperial, tribal, urban, desert, mountain and coastal influences all meeting in one country.

Marrakech closes the journey with color, craft, gardens, palaces and the living theatre of Jemaa el-Fna. For those who want one final contrast, Essaouira can be added as an optional full-day Atlantic escape.

“Before Marrakech, everything was black. This city taught me color.”

- Yves Saint Laurent

Day by Day

Your 10-day itinerary

Casablanca

Your Morocco journey begins beside the Atlantic.

Arrive in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and modern commercial center. Upon arrival at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing time to rest after your flight or begin exploring the surrounding area at your own pace. At 6:00 PM, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a welcome meeting and an introduction to the journey ahead. Your guide will explain the route, travel arrangements and the cultural experiences that will shape the coming days.

Stay Casablanca, Idou Anfa 4* * or similar Meals None

Follow the Atlantic north before the road climbs into Morocco’s blue-painted Rif Mountains.

Begin the day at the Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca’s defining landmark, rising dramatically above the Atlantic Ocean. Admire its monumental scale, intricate craftsmanship and extraordinary coastal setting before continuing to Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital. Explore Rabat’s royal and historic character through landmarks such as the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Kasbah of the Udayas, subject to timing and local conditions. Later, travel north toward Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains. As you arrive, the pace changes completely: whitewashed houses, blue-painted lanes, mountain air and softly lit squares create one of Morocco’s most distinctive settings.

Stay Chefchaouen - Riad Nila or similar Meals Breakfast

Leave the blue mountain lanes behind and travel through Roman history and imperial ambition.

Begin the morning in Chefchaouen, exploring its blue-painted streets, small squares and mountain viewpoints with your guide. Beyond its famous colors, the town reflects Andalusian heritage, spiritual traditions and the quieter rhythm of northern Morocco. Continue south to Volubilis, Morocco’s best-known Roman archaeological site. Walk among ancient columns, mosaics, triumphal arches and the remains of houses that reveal an earlier chapter of the country’s history. Later, visit Meknes, once an imperial capital under Sultan Moulay Ismail. See its monumental gates, historic walls and selected landmarks before continuing to Fes. Arrive in the evening and settle into your riad in Morocco’s cultural and spiritual heart.

Stay Fes - Barcelo Fes Medina or similar Meals Breakfast

Step into a city where centuries-old traditions still shape everyday life.

Today is dedicated to Fes, home to one of the world’s largest and best-preserved historic medinas. Enter through its monumental gates and follow your guide into a dense network of lanes, workshops, markets, religious schools and traditional neighborhoods. Visit selected madrasas, artisan quarters, historic fountains, souks and the renowned tanneries, while learning how trade, faith, scholarship and craftsmanship shaped the city over centuries. Fes is not simply a collection of monuments. It remains a living cultural system where metalworkers, leather artisans, weavers, food vendors and families continue traditions passed through generations. By the end of the day, the medina begins to feel less like a maze and more like a story unfolding around you.

Stay Fes - Barcelo Fes Medina or similar Meals Breakfast, Dinner

Watch Morocco transform from mountain forests to the golden silence of the desert.

Leave Fes and begin one of the journey’s longest yet most scenic overland days. Travel through the Middle Atlas, passing the alpine-style town of Ifrane, cedar forests and mountain landscapes where Barbary macaques may sometimes be seen. As the road continues south, green valleys gradually give way to rocky plateaus, palm-lined towns and the open landscapes of the desert. Arrive near Merzouga, where the dunes of Erg Chebbi rise above the surrounding plains. Experience the changing colors of the Sahara at sunset on a camel back ride before settling into your desert camp. In the evening, enjoy dinner beneath the desert sky and the quiet atmosphere of one of Morocco’s most unforgettable landscapes.

Stay Merzouga, premium desert camp or similar Meals Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Leave the dunes behind and follow the road through gorges, oases and ancient kasbah country.

Wake to the changing morning light of the Sahara before leaving Merzouga and continuing west through southern Morocco. Travel through desert towns, oasis landscapes and palm-filled valleys before reaching Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically above the narrow valley floor. Take time to experience the scale and atmosphere of this remarkable natural landscape. Continue through the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing fortified villages, earthen architecture and landscapes once shaped by caravan routes and regional trade. Arrive in Ouarzazate, often described as the gateway to the Sahara. Settle into your hotel and enjoy dinner after a rewarding day across Morocco’s desert south.

Stay Ouarzazate, OZ Palace or similar Meals Breakfast, Dinner

Follow ancient caravan routes from the kasbah landscapes of the south to the energy of Marrakech.

Begin the day at Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through its earthen lanes and learn how this remarkable ksar reflects the traditional architecture and community life of southern Morocco. The journey then continues across the High Atlas Mountains, following a winding road through changing elevations, mountain settlements and sweeping landscapes. Travel over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass before descending toward Marrakech. Arrive in the Red City by late afternoon or evening and check in to your hotel or riad. The remainder of the day is at leisure, offering time to settle in and absorb the first impressions of Marrakech.

Stay Marrakech - Stars Hotel or similar Meals Breakfast

Discover a city shaped by color, craftsmanship and centuries of movement.

Explore the cultural heart of Marrakech with your guide, beginning with selected historic monuments and elegant architectural landmarks. Visits may include Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, Ben Youssef Madrasa or the Koutoubia Mosque from the exterior, according to opening conditions and timing. Continue into the medina and its artisan souks, where leather, metal, textiles, spices, woodwork and ceramics remain part of the city’s working commercial life. Later, experience Jemaa el-Fna, Marrakech’s great public square. As the day changes, food stalls, musicians, storytellers and crowds transform the space into one of Morocco’s most memorable evening scenes.

Stay Marrakech - Stars Hotel or similar Meals Breakfast

The final full day is yours to experience Marrakech at your own rhythm.

Enjoy a slower final day in Marrakech, with time to return to favorite corners, browse the souks, visit a traditional hammam, explore additional gardens or relax over lunch at a rooftop terrace. You may prefer to spend the day at your hotel, enjoy independent shopping or arrange additional private sightseeing according to your interests. Optional Essaouira Full-Day Excursion: Travel to the Atlantic coast and discover Essaouira, a relaxed port city known for its white-and-blue architecture, historic ramparts, fishing harbor, artists’ galleries and seafood. The excursion offers one final contrast before returning to Marrakech in the evening. Advance booking is required.

Stay Marrakech - Stars Hotel or similar Meals Breakfast
